Preparation Guidelines Before Surgery with Sedation and/or General Anesthesia

It is essential to follow these instructions carefully to ensure a safe and successful surgical experience. Please follow the following guidelines:

Consultation Appointment

With a few exceptions, all patients must attend a consultation appointment before undergoing surgery with sedation and/or general anesthesia.

Preoperative Fasting

NO FOOD OR DRINK, including gum or breath mints, for at least six (6) hours before surgery. This is crucial for your safety while under anesthesia.

Medication Instructions

If preoperative medications are prescribed, take them with the smallest amount of water possible, as directed on the label. Do not exceed two (2) ounces (1/4 cup) of water. Take other regular prescribed drugs unless instructed otherwise, using minimal water as well.

Smoking and Alcohol

Refrain from smoking on the day of surgery and avoid alcoholic beverages the night before your appointment. Both can affect the effects of the anesthesia.

Attire

Wear loose, comfortable clothing with short sleeves and low-heeled shoes for ease and comfort during the procedure.

Transportation and Accompaniment

Arrange for an adult to drive you to and from your appointment. They must stay for the entire procedure, which typically lasts around one and a half hours. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Nail Polish and Pregnancy

Remove dark nail polish from index fingers if applicable. Also, we cannot proceed with surgery if there is any chance of pregnancy.

Contact Lenses and Piercings

For safety reasons, remove contact lenses, facial piercings, and oral piercings before surgery.

Illness Notification

If you have a cold, sore throat, cough, or any other illness, please inform the office before your appointment.

Post-Anesthesia Precautions

After anesthesia, refrain from driving or operating machinery for 24 hours to ensure your safety.

Payment

All payments must be settled before the day of surgery. We accept cash, personal checks, and credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Discover Card, and American Express) for your convenience.

By following these instructions, you contribute to a smooth and successful surgical experience. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our office for clarification.
